A live-service co-op action RPG from BioWare. A planned overhaul, Anthem Next, was cancelled in February 2021. The existing live service was left running without new development.
What happened
Anthem Next cancelled
BioWare's February 24 2021 blog post, reported by Polygon and PC Gamer, said new development on Anthem (Anthem Next) would stop. The live service would continue in its then-current form.
Anthem launched in February 2019. After a troubled live-service year, BioWare paused seasonal updates to work on a longer redesign known as Anthem Next. On February 24 2021, executive producer Christian Dailey wrote that BioWare would stop that new development work.
Polygon and PC Gamer reported the post. BioWare said the existing live service would keep running. No public development budget was disclosed. The game was not taken offline; it was abandoned as a live product.
