Square Enix launched Babylon's Fall on March 3 2022. IGN reported the publisher's notice that service would end on February 28 2023. Reception at launch was poor, and concurrent player counts on Steam stayed very low for a full-price Square Enix release.
The game was always online. When service ended, owners lost access. Square Enix did not publish a development budget.
