What happened
Studio closed four days after launch
On December 11 2023, Fntastic said The Day Before had failed financially and the studio was closing. PC Gamer and IGN reported that sales on Steam were then halted.
Shipped product did not match the marketing
Coverage at launch described an extraction shooter that did not match years of open-world survival trailers. Steam user reviews were overwhelmingly negative.
Servers turned off in January 2024
PC Gamer reported on December 22 2023 that servers would be turned off on January 22 2024, with Steam issuing refunds.
The Day Before entered Early Access on December 7 2023. Four days later Fntastic said the game had failed financially and the studio was closing. PC Gamer reported that Steam sales stopped the same day. IGN reported that Fntastic and Mytona were working with Valve on refunds.
On December 22 2023, PC Gamer reported that servers would be retired on January 22 2024 and that remaining purchases would be refunded. The studio's own marketing had presented an MMO-scale survival game; the shipped Early Access build was widely described as a small extraction shooter.
